By Victoria Hanson Sequel to intervention of Lagos State House of Assembly, Nigerian Navy has promised to open the road that leads to Majidun in Ikorodu.
The representative of Navy, Commodore A.O Adaji gave the assurance while giving clarification at the meeting held Wednesday with the Assembly Ad hoc committee set up to investigate the closure of the road among other allegations.
The chairman of the Ad hoc committee Hon. Rotimi Abiru commended Navy for restoring peace and order in the riverine route of the illegal bunkers that distabilized the growth of economy in the state and therefore implored them to keep up the good works.
He also urged them and the people of the community to cohabit peacefully.
Abiru also made it known that the House was not passing judgement but on a mission to encourage peace.
Responding, Commodore Adaji, the commander NNS Beecroft made it known that the primary assignment of Navy is to guard and protect the water ways running through Ishawo to Majidun to link other parts of Nigeria.
Adaji explained that hoodlums took over the community and stocked the community with petroleum products from illegal bunkering.
This he said is the reason they barricaded the roads to stall the illegal activities.
Speaking for the community, the Oba of Majidun, HRH Jethro R.Abejoye also acknowledged the peace and tranquility they have enjoyed for thirteen months since the arrival of the command in the community but appealed to them to open the road to enable vehicular movement and easy access of heavy duty vehicles such as LAWMA trucks, tippers and water tankers.
In his words “we appreciate Navy but we are appealing that the road should be open to enable us do our usual business of buying and selling”
To this plea, Navy made the pronouncement to open the road.
