An Igodan Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Friday sentenced a 29-year-old labourer, Solomon Ovat, to one year imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle.
Ovat, whose address was not given, had pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of stealing.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Chris Ojuola, passed the sentence.
He had directed the convict to compensate for the stolen property and pay a fine of N50,000 but the convict was unable to do so.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Yetunde Omosehin, told the court that the convict stole the motorcycle on June 26 at 4:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Celestial Church, Old Ikoya Road, Okitipupa.
Omosehin said that the convict stole a black unregistered Suzuki motorcycle with chasis number BEHG-047914.
She said that the motorcycle worth N160, 000 belonged to one Mr Felix Akinmeji and was stolen from where it was parked.
Omosehin noted that stealing contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006. (NAN)
