The leadership of the two major labour unions in Ekiti has commended Gov. Kayode Fayemi for implementing the new minimum wage for the state workers, as earlier agreed.
The commendation was contained in a statement in Ado-Ekiti signed by Mr Kolapo Olatunde, Chairman, the Ekiti State Chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Sola Adigun, Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ekiti State Chapter.
Other signatories were Mrs E.T. Akinyemi, State NLC Secretary and Mr Kuloogun Lawrence, TUC Secretary in Ekiti.
The organised labour praised Fayemi on the adoption of the agreed new minimum wage and consequential adjustment table on Jan. 5, 2021 and implementating same with effect from January 2021 for Grade Level (GL) 07 to GL 12, without fail.
It, however, appealed to the governor to assist in ensuring that those on GL 13 to GL 17 will begin to enjoy their own portion of the consequential adjustment before the end of March 2021.
“This is to enable the affected workers to have a good share of your good governance in Ekiti State.
“Once again, the implementation of the outstanding promotions for the years 2017, 2018 and 2019 appeared to have been abandoned.
“We are appealing to your Excellency to allow the completion of payment of these outstanding promotions for years 2017, 2018 and 2019 within the shortest space of February, March and April 2021 respectively.
“The outstanding four months salaries and four months deductions for state workers, six months for local government workers and primary school teachers, leave bonuses for the years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, the two unions said.
The union leaders said pensioners and institutions which were receiving government subventions were “all begging seriously and urgently for payment’’.
“Your prompt attention to the issues raised we believe will further endear your administration into the hearts of the entire workers of Ekiti State, they said.
The statement commended Gov Fayemi for adopting scientific approach to governance, saying such had been yielding good results in the areas of infrastructural, social and institutional developments.
It prayed that year 2021 would bring forth good tidings to the entire Ekiti State. (NAN)
