The Kwara State University (KWASU) says it will commence operations in two campuses of the institution next academic session.
KWASU confirmed that the campuses are located at Osi and Ilesha-Baruba.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Director, University Relations, Mr Abdulrazaq Sanni, on Monday in Ilorin.
He said that it was part of the government’s plans to meet up with the law that made KWASU a three-campus institution and to equally take care of the increasing population of students on yearly basis.
The government representative on the Council of the university, Alhaji Suleiman Obawankasi, also assured that plans have reached advance stage to make the other two campuses functional and ready for use by the 2022/2023 academic year.
On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Prof. Muhammed Akanbi, particularly commended Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of the state for approving the completion of the two campuses.
Akanbi described the approval as a thing of joy to both the staff and students of the institution.
He explained that the two other campuses at Osi in Ekiti Local Government Area and Ilesha-Baruba in Baruten Local Government Area would afford the university ample opportunity to expose students to another set of state-of-the-art facilities that would aid effective teaching and learning in the 21st century.
According to him, contractors have promised to move back to return to site on March 9, and complete the two satellite campuses within the specificied eight to ten months period.
He disclosed that a joint monitoring team between the state Ministry of Tertiary Education and KWASU has been constituted towards ensuring an effective internal control mechanism.
The vice-chancellor also lauded the governor’s listening ears to KWASU’s yearnings and aspirations any time the need arises.
“The approval of the completion of the two campuses, couple with various ongoing projects that are springing up in Malete campus show clearly that we have a governor that cares about education in the state.
“Knowing fully well that sound and qualitative education is the hallmark of development in all known human societies,” he said.
Akanbi pledged that the university, under his leadership, would continue to justify government huge investment in the institution by keeping the flag flying and doing everything humanly possible to sustain its legacy as an enviable citadel of learning in the country and beyond. (NAN)
