The Kebbi State Chief Judge, Justice Suleiman Muhammad-Ambursa, on Friday inaugurated three tribunals to handle cases related to local government council’s elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the council elections are slated for Feb. 5, in 21 local government areas of the state.
The three tribunals inaugurated were Appeal Petition, Chairmanship and Councillorship.
NAN reports that the Chairman of Appeal Petition Tribunal is Justice Sabi’u Abdullahi with Abubakar Abdullahi and Hafiz Muhammad as members.
The Chairmanship Tribunal is to be headed by Magistrate Yakubu Shuaibu, with Hassan Kwaido and Bashir Mohammed as members.
In the same vein, Councillorship elections would be headed by Magistrate Umar Kallamu, with Rakiya Isah-Aize and Aliyu Bage as members.
Inaugurating the tribunals, Justice Ambursa, urged them to adhere strictly to electoral laws and the oaths of allegiance.
He said that the two tribunals were to handle petitions on local government chairmanship and councillorship election while the other is for Appeal.
“What we have done today is in accordance with the provision of electoral law of Kebbi State that, in any local government election, there should be election tribunal and an Appeal tribunal.
“We have done our own side and we also pray that politicians would play their own side in accordance with law.
“I don’t need to say anything about the conduct of tribunal because they have already taken the oaths of their offices,” he said.
He said that the appointees were people of integrity, trusted by Kebbi state judiciary therefore “You have no reason to fail this assignment.” (NAN)
