The Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development has dissolved the retired Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) staff Cooperatives Society due to a prolonged leadership tussle.
The Commissioner, Hajiya Rabi Salisu, announced the dissolution while inaugurating a nine-member caretaker committee tasked with managing the cooperative’s affairs for the next six months.
Salisu stated, “Based on the powers vested in me in Section 35 (a), (b), (c), and Section 37 of the Nigerian Cooperative Societies Act, I hereby dissolve the NNPC retired staff MPCSL and RSA Cooperative Societies indefinitely.”
She also inaugurated a nine-member committee to manage the cooperative’s affairs for six months from Tuesday.
Salisu emphasized the necessity of the action, highlighting that the ongoing leadership conflict, which had persisted for eleven years, has prevented the cooperative from functioning effectively.
“Many members have passed away without reaping the benefits of their contributions due to this conflict,”
she added.
The commissioner urged the committee members to perform their duties diligently and complete their assignment within the stipulated period.
The committee’s terms of reference include identifying and resolving the cooperative’s problems and conducting a free and fair election.
They also include recovering due loans, establishing an inventory and account of the society and re-validating the cooperative’s registration, seal and bye-laws.
The committee, composed of serving and retired civil servants, including Dorcas Tanko as Chairperson and Kabir A. Tahir.
Its Secretary is Loretta Marcus while Binta Aminu, Amos Aura, Moh’d Bello, Ogboke Atani, Kelvin Adamu, and Martins Ayuba are members.(NAN).
