Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa, Secretary to Katsina State Government (SSG), on Monday in Katsina, advised youths to acquire vocational skills that would make them self- reliant.
Inuwa stated this during the distribution of motorcycles, bags of rice and other items to some residents of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items were donated by Alhaji Ahmed Dayyabu, member representing Safana, Danmusa and Batsari Local Government Areas of Katsina state in the National Assembly (NASS).
He advised the youth to engage in vocations that would make them self-employed rather than wait on government for white-collar jobs.
“Gone are the days when government can provide employment for school leavers.
“The youth must look inward to see what they can do to sustain themselves, their families and the society in general,” he said.
The SSG charged the youth in the local government areas to be security conscious in view of banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling bedevilling the area.
Earlier, the donor, Dayyabu, had said that the donation was to support the people of his constituency.
“My responsibility is to make laws that would improve your wellbeing, but not to do what I did,” he said.
