Kano State Fire Service says it saved 40 lives and goods worth N337 million from 85 fire incidents in February.
Alhaji Saidu Muhammed, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the service, said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Wednesday.
Muhammed, however, said that nine lives were lost during the period under review.
“Twenty six people were involved in road accidents, 39 were involved in fire outbreaks in dwelling houses and the remaining 20 were involved in flood, domestic fire incidents among others,” he said.
The PRO said that property valued at N27 million were destroyed during the period, while the service received 31 rescue calls and 13 false alarms from residents.
He said that road accidents, the use of inferior electrical materials; use of boiling rings, as well as poor handling of electrical appliances, cooking gas and fireplace were the major causes of the inferno.
He advised residents to patronise high quality electrical materials and be careful during harmattan season in handling anything that involve fire to avert outbreak. (NAN)
