The wind of Cricket Development blowing across the country has touched down in Kano with the inauguration of the State Cricket Association as well as launching of Cricket Development and training programme in the schools at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and technology, ADanlami Garba who inaugurated the association on behalf of the state Governor, said this is a new dawn for the game.
He emphasis the need for everyone in Kano to support the development of the game in the state. Garba said with the population of Youths in the state, the game will soon enjoy the support of everybody. He promised good collaboration between his ministry and the sports commission.
President, Nigeria Cricket Federation, Emeka Onyeama who thanked the state government for their new vision in promoting the game, promised the NCF technical, moral and financial assistance to the new board. He urged them to shun acrimony, as crises have never help the growth of any game in Nigeria
The NCF President reiterated the desire of the federation to take the game to the nooks and crannies of the Country.
Chairman, kano state Sports Commission, Ibrahim Galadima, who is one time Chairman, Nigeria Football Association said part of their efforts of ensuring the development of the game is training the school games masters on its technicalities as well as introducting it in the school curriculum.
The highlights of the event include game’s demonstration by the school children.
In the exhibition match played between Kaduna State Cricket team and Kano team, Kaduna won the friendly encounter by 13 runs. Kaduna won the toss in a 20 overs and elected to bat first, scored 174 runs for 5 wickets while Kano recorded 166 runs all in 19.2 overs. Adiamo Mojeed of Kaduna was the man of the match while Daniel Gim also from Kaduna team scored 49 runs and got 3 wickets as a bowler.
