The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ismail Falgore, on Tuesday inaugurated 38 standing committees for effective operation of the oversight functions of the House.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the 10th assembly had been operating with ad-hoc committees since its inauguration on June 13.
Speaking at the inauguration during plenary, Falgore said that the committees would monitor government projects as their oversight functions.
Falgore said that the Public Accounts Committee would be headed by Alhaji Tukur Fagge; Works and Housing, Muhammad Aliyu; Aminu Ungogo, Appropriation; Ahmed Ibrahim; Agriculture.
Others include, Haruna Tahir, Water Resources; Alhassan Ishak, Health; Suleiman Ishak, Education; Shuaibu Rabiu, Information; and Ibrahim Muhammad, Rural; among others.
The speaker advised the committee chairmen to live up to expectations by serving their respective committees diligently.
Meanwhile, the house called on the state government to establish a college of education in Karaye Local Government area.
This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public interest by Ahmed Ibrahim (NNPP- Karaye).
Presenting the motion, Ibrahim said that the college, if established would promote the educational quest of the people of the area, the state and the nation at large.
The lawmaker noted that it would also boost the economic fortunes of the area and provide jobs for the teaming youths of the area.
“The request if granted will also reduce social vices among youths as the inhabitants would be exposed to the prospects in education,” he explained.
In his contribution, the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Muhammad Butu-Butu, (NNPP- Rimingado/Tofa), said the college when established, would address the problem of shortage of teachers in the area.
He further said that the school would provide job opportunities to people from Kiru, Bebeji, Karaye, Rimingado and Tofa.
After deliberation by the lawmakers, the house unanimously adopted the motion and urged the state government to establish a college of education in the area. (NAN)
