One person died in 20 fire outbreaks recorded in Kaduna State in August.
Mr Paul Aboi, Director of the Kaduna State Fire Service, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna on Tuesday that one person also sustained injuries while another was rescued unhurt.
He said the fire outbreaks were recorded in Kaduna, Zaria and in Kafanchan.
“Properties worth N171,000 were saved from destruction within the period while properties worth N30,000 were destroyed,’’ he said.
The director noted a reduction in fire outbreaks in the state and said public enlightenment and heavy rains in the month of August contributed to the reduction.
He said 70 per cent of fire incidents in the state resulted from carelessness on the part of residents, adding that most of the incidents were caused by electrical faults.
Aboi urged the state government to ensure that all local government areas were equipped with fire fighting facilities and appealed to residents to ensure they had fire extinguishers in their homes. (NAN)
