Kaduna State Government said on Tuesday it had arraigned 63 persons before a Magistrate Court in Kaduna over alleged involvement in the Kasuwan Magani crisis in which 12 persons were killed and properties burnt.
The Solicitor General, Mr Chris Umar, who addressed newsmen on the arraingment in Kaduna, alleged that the 63 accused persons were arrested on Feb. 26 during the mayhem in Kasuwan Magani.
The solicitor general said that the accused are facing five-count charge bordering on culpable homicide, unlawful assembly and rioting.
“A combined team of operatives were quickly mobilised and deployed to the scene and 63 people were arrested in the act.
“After completion of initial investigation, the 63 people were charged before the Chief Magistrates’ Court 6, Dauda Road Kaduna.
“Those arrested were charged with offences of criminal conspiracy, rioting while armed with offensive weapons, Culpable Homicide punishable with death.
“Other offences include unlawful Assembly while armed with offensive weapons and inciting disturbance, contrary to sections 59, 67,190 and 78 of the penal code law of Kaduna State 2017,” Umar said.
He said the case was mentioned and adjourned till March 15, 2018, to allow the police conclude investigations.
The solicitor general said the court had remanded all the accused persons in prison custody, except one Theophilus Saidu, an underage, who handed over to a reliable surety.
According to him, the mastermind of the crisis, one Zidene, still at large.
