Following the killing of the Labour Party
senatorial candidate for Enugu East, Barrister Oyibo Chukwu by gunmen, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the election billed for tomorrow.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who broke the news at a media briefing held at the National Collation Centre at International Conference Center, Abuja on Friday, said March 11 has been fixed as the new date.
According to him the Commission has formally received an official notification from Labour Party over the unfortunate killing of its candidate in Enugu, pointing out that in keeping with the Provision of the Electoral Act 2022 INEC has to postpone the Enugu East Senatorial election on Saturday.
He said campaign for the Senatorial Election in the zone will continue alongside the Governorship and House of Assembly elections on March 11.
