President Goodluck Jonathan has received with sadness news of the death of renowned political scientist and former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Omo Omoruyi.
President Jonathan commiserates with Prof. Omoruyi’s family and the Government and people of Edo State on the loss of the very distinguished academic and illustrious citizen whose contributions to the nation’s political development will be long remembered.
President Jonathan believes that Nigerians will always acknowledge and honour the late Professor’s significant contributions towards laying an enduring foundation for the current democratic dispensation in the country through the work of the Centre for Democratic Studies which he served as pioneer Director-General.
He joins Prof. Omoruyi’s family, relatives, friends and associates in praying for the peaceful repose of the eminent intellectual’s soul.
Also, President of the Senate, David Mark has lamented his death, describing him as a scholar per excellence and a political encyclopedia.
Mark, in a reaction to the demise of the elder statesman, said the nation has lost one of the best and fertile minds in politics and academics.
According to him, “Omoruyi was an academic and political giant who was very vast in the political history of Nigeria and Africa,” saying that a vacuum has been created with his exit.
He said Nigerians and generations yet unborn would remember Omo Omoruyi as a scholar who was ever ready to offer useful direction especially during difficult times.
Mark urged the government and people of Edo state especially the bereaved family to take solace in the fact that Omoruyi lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation, Mark’s Media Adviser, Kola Ologbondiyan said.
