By Olanrewaju Ajao President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign trail was in his home state of Bayelsa Friday where he told a mammoth crowd of supporters to keep supporting all candidates and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at all levels during the February polls and beyond.
The President who spoke against the backdrop of reported division within the PDP in the state urged his kinsmen to extend the same support they have for him to the sitting governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, saying he needs to work with him in order to keep delivering dividends of democracy to the people.
The President cautioned Bayelsans to support their governor at all cost and avoid listening to the gospel of people who are out to destroy the state.
“We have done a lot of work in the state which we don’t need to start mentioning here in order not to bore you.
I am working with the governor; I have to work with him to be able to succeed. Don’t allow people to spoil your minds. If you support me, you must also support the governor. You must work with the governor of the state. We are together. We will bring the more dividends of democracy to the state.
Some people are out to destroy the state by poisoning your minds. Don’t listen to them,” the President said.
The President thanked the people for their support since 1999 when he became deputy governor, saying he wasn’t in the state to campaign.
Vice President, Namadi Sambo chided Buhari’s running mate, Professor Yemi Osibajo who said APC would put Buhari in front in the fight against insurgents.
Sambo insisted that Buhari was an old retired general who can’t run more than a few metres before falling.
Speaking earlier, First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan urged women and youths to vote for her husband since his administration had been kind to them.
She added that this is digital age and she doesn’t expect them to vote people who will take Nigeria backwards.
Also speaking, the national chairman of the party, Adamu Muazu thanked the state for producing such an excellent leader who he said is taking Nigeria to new heights.
Host governor, Dickson said the state was proud of the achievements of President Jonathan and will continue to support him.
Former governor of the state, DSP Alamieyeiseigha knocked Jonathan’s challenger, Muhammadu Buhari, saying the former leader was “at the departure lounge waiting to board”.
He indicted the north for holding all the key security positions under Jonathan and yet not being unable to tackle insurgency.
Ijaw youth leader, Engr Eradiri said the people never called for war against other parts of the country if Jonathan loses, adding that something however needed to be done to stop the embarrassment and stoning of the President in the north.
The rally was held at the Samson Siasia Stadium which was filled to capacity.
