The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) said it has trained and empowered no fewer than unemployed 300 youths on various skills in Kano state.
The Director-General of ITF, Sir Joseph Ari, stated this on Thursday during the graduation of the trainees at the Government House, Kano.
According to him, the beneficiaries comprising of 158 boys and 142 females, were trained for a period of three months on various skills including tailoring and fashion design, welding, plumbing and pipe fitting.
He said the training was conducted under the National Industrial Skills Development Programme (NISDP) of the agency.
Represented by a director in the agency, Isiaku Shehu said that the Fund spent N21 million on the training pointing out that the trainees were given training allowance of N15,000 each.
He also presented working tools such as, sewing machine, welding machine and plumbing materials to the trainees.
He then cautioned the beneficiaries not to sell the equipment given to them but to make judicious use of them.
In a remark, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje commended the ITF for living up to its mandate and promised the support of the state government.
He said that the state government would do more for the teaming unemployed youths in the state.
Ganduje also promised to give each of the graduands N30,000 as start up capital to enable them start a business.
He also cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the tools presented to them stressing that the state government had constituted a monitoring team that go round with a view to monitoring their performance.
One of the beneficiaries, Ali Sani, promised to put to practice what they have been taught and strive to be good ambassador of the agency.
