The Islamic State for Iraq and Syria has appointed a new leader for Boko Haram.
He is Abu Musab al-Barnawi. He replaces Abubakar Shekau, who was said to have been killed in an encounter with Nigerian troops.
The BBC reports that the announcement was contained in the latest issue of an ISIS magazine.
Al-Barnawi was the spokesman of Boko Haram while Shekau held sway as its leader.
Boko Haram, the dreaded sect has killed thousands of innocent people in Nigeria’s northeastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.
The sect had also attacked some states in the Northwest including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
