The Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned the head of the French embassy to Iran over a row in France defending its right to show cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.
The Foreign Ministry, according to news agency ISNA said “in the meeting, we strongly condemned any insult to the prophet and accordingly also any statement by French officials [regarding the issue].’’
The ministry said it was regrettable that the sanctities of millions of Muslims were being ignored in the name of freedom of speech. This would only fuel Islamist extremism.
Local media reported that protests in front of the French embassy were planned in Iran.
