President Muhammadu Buhari today (Thursday) in Abuja told Heads of Security Agencies to justify their continuous stay in office as he expressed anger at their less than satisfactory performance so far.
An unhappy President Buhari who met with the/Service Chiefs led by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin, told them in the meeting held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that he will no longer accept further escalation in insecurity in the country, which has led to protests, especially in the North West geopolitical zone.
Prompt News reports that Nigeria has witnessed an increase in banditry attacks in recent days and the security meeting was to find a lasting solutions to the problem.
The President did not hide his displeasure over the spate of insecurity hence, he has given the Service Chiefs the marching orders to tackle the menace without giving excuses.
This much was disclosed by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (Retd) while briefing State House Correspondents at the end of the meeting with Mr. President.
He revealed that, “the president is “extremely unhappy” and wants a reversal in the deteriorating security situation.
According to the NSA, “the President told the Security Chiefs that they were not imposed on him, saying that it was therefore up to them to prove themselves”.
Monguno also said the President was also unhappy at the continuous lack of synergy among the various security agencies and wanted the situation resolved.
The meeting at the seat of power between the President and the Service Chiefs; the Chief of Defence Staff and NSA commenced at exactly 9:00 am and ended few hours later.
