ABUJA – The President of World Football Governing Body, FIFA, Gianani Infantino has dismissed existence of any leadership crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation, saying Amaju Pinnick, is the only recognized President of the federation.
“I don’t think there is leadership crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation. There is an elected President who was elected two years ago”.
“The situation in a country like Nigeria is that you face some opposition from some persons who are not happy with the results, but democracy has spoken.
“The Court of Arbitration, which is the Supreme Court in football, has spoken as well.
“So, I think what is to be done is the work to be carried out.
“The president of the Nigeria Football Federation as well as the president of FIFA have to be judged based on their work not based on situation that might be created,” the visiting FIFA President told State House correspondents after holding talks with President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
While describing Nigeria as a great football country, Infantino assured that FIFA would assist the NFF in the provision of necessary facilities to boost the development of the round leather game in the country.
The FIFA president, who described Nigeria as “a great football country’’ pledged the associations continued support in the provision of state-of-the-art facilities to boost the development of football in the country.
Amaju Pinninsk was elected NFF President in 2014 at an Elective Congress held in Warri, Delta State, South-south Nigeria.
Mr Infantino alongside FIFA Secretary General, Ms. Fatma Samoura, arrived Abuja on Sunday on a two-day working visit to Nigeria.
They have both held talks with the NFF Board, Senate President Bukola Saraki before visiting the President.
