For the umteempt time, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu has stated that the electoral umpire will conduct a credible free, fair and conclusive election in Osun state.
Yakubu gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday in Osogbo, Osun state capital.
The INEC chairman further revealed that all sensitive materials have been deployed to the 30 local government areas across the state while adding that People with Disabilities (PWD) would be deployed as adhoc staff during the election.
He further appealed to all candidates and political parties participating in the election to abide by the rules of the game.
Speaking earlier at the occasion, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner *REC) in Osun state, Professor AbdulGaniyu Olayinka Raji revealed that the electoral body will announce the result of the Osun election within 12 hours adding that adequate measures have been put in place for the conduct of the election.
He said, “The impressive outcome experienced in the Ekiti State is a good reflection of the level of our planning and we are super ready to beat Ekiti record in Osun State by announcing the result in less than 12 hours. To ensure this, we must all be on the same page and work towards a common goal of credible, fair, free and conclusive gubernatorial election”.
Also, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo who spoke at stakeholders meeting further stated that 21,000 Police personnel have been deployed to the state while warning trouble makers who are planning to foment trouble will be dealt with according to the law.
