ABUJA – Senator Ahmed Makarfi has been recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Consequently, INEC would recognise the National Caretaker’s activities such as the conduct of primaries of political officers and submission of the plaintiff’s list of the candidate for any election to be conducted by INEC.
Mr. Nick Dazang, Deputy Director, Voter Education and Publicity at INEC disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
Dazang said, “Two weeks ago, the commission received the candidate forwarded to it by the Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the PDP, which had earlier secured an order from the Port Harcourt High Court.”
According to him, INEC’s ratification of the administrative approval granted Makarfi, was anchored on the judgement of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt.
He also said the ratification was in line with INEC’s Decision Extract, issued on July 14, 2016 and signed by the Director, Commission’s Secretariat, Mr Ishiaku Gali.
