Determined to conduct free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria, the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will continue to deploy technological innovations to improve the nation’s electoral process.
The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu restated the commitment on Wednesday in Abuja at a meeting with a delegation from the European Union Election Observation Mission.
Yakubu explained that several reforms by the Commission including the creation of additional Polling Units were initiated from the recommendations by the EU Election Observation Mission and like-minded organizations after the conduct of the 2019 general elections.
The INEC boss expressed optimism that some of the lapses observed in recently conducted elections in the country would be addressed before the 2023 General Elections.
Also speaking at the event, the leader of the delegation and European Union Chief Election Observer, Maria Arena promised continued EU support to deepen Nigeria’s democratic process.
The meeting which later went into executive session is expected to deliberate on new electoral support Programme recently launched by the EU ahead of the 2023 General Elections.
