The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has deployed 3,000 personnel to beef up security during the 61st Independence Day celebration.
Mrs Comfort Okomanyi, the FCT NSCDC Public Relations Officer (PRO) said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
The PRO said the FCT Corps Commandant, Mr Peter Maigari had ordered the deployment of 3,000 officers and men to increase patrols within the territory to ensure a peaceful independence celebration.
“They are to maintain and boost security, especially toward the celebration of the nation’s 61st independence anniversary and thereafter.’’
The commandant warned that anyone caught vandalising public facilities will be punished.
“Any perpetrator involved in crime or any act of vandalism will squarely face the law,” he said.
Maigari further admonished all residents to exercise caution by taking precautionary measures to protect themselves.
“Report any suspicious activity or persons to the nearest security post for further action,” he advised.
He wished Nigerians a peaceful independence celebration. (NAN)
