By Godwin Kingsley, Lafia Governor Umaru Al- Makura of Nasarawa state has assured of his administration’s commitment to security agencies towards ending the incessant herdsmen and farmers clashes.
Al-Makura stated this on Tuesday in Lafia, when he received the Peace and Security committee set up by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar with the view to ending the crises.
He said the presence of the committee in the state have giving people the assurance that the Police was committed to ensuring the restoration of peace in the region.
According to him, the state government was ready to interface the Police in order to find a lasting peace to the lingering crises.
He added that Police should consider adopting air surveillance strategy to track down large migration of herdsmen to ascertain their genuineness.
Also, he pointed out that the ranks of the herdsman have been infiltrated criminals and cattle rustlers, adding that the air surveillance strategy would go a long way to check the excesses.
The Governor described as “unfortunate,” the allegation that Nasarawa state harbours insurgents, who attacked parts of Benue state.
He explained that Nasarawa is strategically located, however, the insurgents used forest routes that were not outlined or policed, thus, the need to adopt air surveillance.
Earlier, chairman of the committee, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations, Mike Zuokumor told the governor that they were in the state to ascertain the cause of the incessant crises between farmers and herdsmen with the aim of proffering lasting solution.
He said the Police Commissioners of Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau states as well as farmers and herdsmen are members of the committee.
