The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Lagos State, on Monday called on Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to do more to improve human development index in the state.
The Lagos State ADC Chairman, Mr George Ashiru, made this call in a statement by the party’s Public Relations Officer, Eyiyemi Rogbinyin, after the State Executive Council Meeting.
Ashiru said the party had identified several key areas of the Nigerian state that should be key priorities of both the Lagos State and the Federal Government.
“Good governance is judged by the quality of life of citizens. Good roads, cleaner streets, accessible pipe borne water, access to good quality health care, security and effective education are the pillars of good governance.
“The party encourages the government of Mr Sanwo-Olu to do everything in his power to leave a legacy across these critical areas,” he said.
According to him, social cohesion is also a must, saying that being a cosmopolitan city, Lagos is home for all and the economic and social heart of Nigeria.
“ADC acknowledges the good impact of the recently launched rail lines.
“These policies are directly good for business and social mobility as 20 million people move around Lagos every day,” Ashiru said.
On the nation’s foreign exchange crisis, he said that it would lead to monumental inflation.
The chairman said that the trend would erode business profits, lead to mass unemployment and kill small businesses.
Ashiru said: “As long as we are an import dependent economy arbitrage in the forex sector means demand will always overwhelm supply.
“So, President Tinubu needs to address the shortfall in our supply side.
“We need all the refineries to work in order to eliminate purchase of PMS from our scanty forex inflows, and improve our trade balance and reserve.”
Ashiru said that the ADC Lagos State would build a permanent centre for leadership development to train and mentor emerging leaders for a greater Nigeria.
He said the state exco also passed vote-of-confidence in his leadership while also congratulating him on his conferment of the President Obasanjo Leadership Award for Party Leadership.
Ashiru said the 20 new local government chairmen of the party, inaugurated by the party’s national chairman recently, were formally received by the state exco at the meeting. (NAN). READ ALSO:
