Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has described the allegations leading to his impeachment as “fictitious and baseless.”
Speaking during a welcome rally held at his Joel Ogunnaike residence in Ikeja on Saturday, Obasa alleged that due process was not followed in his removal.
He accused the Lagos State Commissioner of Police of leading security agents to invade the Assembly prior to the impeachment proceedings.
Obasa further claimed that over 200 policemen stormed his residences in Agege and Ikeja, locking his family members indoors during the incident.
“If I am no longer the Speaker, it’s not the end of the world,” Obasa said. “But if you want to accuse me of corruption, then prove it. How can anyone justify constructing an ordinary gate for N16 billion? Is it the wall of Jericho?”
The impeachment, carried out by more than two-thirds of the 40-member House, was based on alleged misconduct and other offences.
Following his removal, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the former Deputy Speaker, was elected as the new Speaker, becoming the first woman to lead the legislative body in Lagos and the Southwest region.
Obasa, who represents Agege Constituency I, has been a member of the House since 2007.
He became Speaker in June 2015 and served in that capacity until his removal in January 2025.
