Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, was absent on Friday as the newly appointed Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, led the first plenary session following Obasa’s removal.
The plenary, which commenced at 11 a.m., saw the majority of lawmakers from various constituencies in attendance.
Prior to his ousting, Obasa was reported to be on vacation abroad. It remains unclear if he is still in Atlanta, United States, where sources indicated he was spending his break.
Obasa, representing Agege Constituency 1, was removed from office by a majority of House members on Monday due to allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement. Since his removal, he has not publicly responded to the accusations.
According to The PUNCH, during Friday’s session, Speaker Meranda introduced the new principal officers of the House.
In her address, Meranda, the first female speaker, committed to “working tirelessly to uphold the principles of transparency, good governance, and the noble values this esteemed House represents.”
