All is not well in the Heartland as Imo State House of Assembly has suspended four members over an alleged plot to impeach the Speaker, Chike Olemgbe.
The Speaker announced the suspension during plenary on Tuesday.
The suspended lawmakers include Samuel Otuibe (Ahiazu-Mbaise), Henry Agbasonu (Ezinihitte-Mbaise), Chidiebere Ogbunikpa (Okigwe), and Dominic Ezerioha (Oru-West).
The Speaker said the decision to suspend them was taken at the executive session.
Olemgbe also announced that all Standing Committees headed by the suspended members have been taken away from them.
He made minor adjustments on the standing committees.
Some of the suspended members present during the announcement declined to speak with journalists.
Sources close to the Imo legislative arm quoted the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Mazi Peter Uwa, as saying in Owerri that the suspension was the Speaker’s idea, adding that no member of the Assembly moved the motion for suspension.
He said the reason for the suspension was “for hatching, scheming an impeachment plan and inciting members to impeach the Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly.” READ ALSO:
