The Nigerian top-flight has been renamed Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) by the Interim Management Committee (IMC), reports Prompt News.
The previous name, the Nigeria Professional Football League was adopted by the old body, League Management Company (LMC) ahead of the 2012/13 season.
The IMC took over the running of the Nigerian top flight last year after the LMC was scrapped the sports ministry.
The Nigerian top-flight had at different times been known as the Nigerian Premier League, Nigerian Premiership, Nigerian Professional League, Nigerian National League- First Division and the Nigerian Fooball League.
The 2022/23 NPFL season will kick-off on Sunday with the game between former champions , Akwa United and Bendel Insurance at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
The nine remaining fixtures will be played next weekend.
The IMC has adopted an abridged format for the new campaign.v
