As the culture of reading is fast going into extinction with the advent of the new media, Deacon Irem Kalu has urged Nigerians of all ages to imbibe the reading culture.
This is even as he has admonished parents to properly guide their children by introducing them to book reading especially from young age, pointing out that a society that does not read will not grow.
Deacon Kalu made this remark at the Public Presentation of a new book titled: ‘Simple Songs Children Love’ written by Mummy Ego Hulda Nwoko, held at the weekend at the Assemblies of God Church, Bende Road, Umuahia, Abia state.
Deacon Kalu who was the Chairman of the book launch described the publication as very valuable for spiritual growth and learning hence he recommended it to schools and churches.
He also said that the 68-page book containing 177 songs in total will be valuable in homes even as he commended the author for embarking on the project at a time many people erroneously do not believe in reading.
Speaking after the successful launching of the new book, Mummy Ego Hulda Nwoko who is a younger sister of veteran journalist and author, Harry Chidozie Awurumibe, said she got the inspiration to write the book from God.
She also said she hopes the book will inspire young children to cultivate the culture of reading while she believes it will enrich their spiritual minds, adding that the songs contained in the book are from the Holy Bible, common songs children sing in schools and churches too.
