Members of the llorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (lEDPU) residing in the U.S on Thursday, commissioned two motorised boreholes in ASA and Moro Local Government area of Kwara.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the projects which were aimed at alleviating acute shortage of portable water, were located at Otte in ASA LGA and Malete in Moro LGA.
NAN also reports that the commissioning took place under the supervision of some members of the union from U.S.
In his remarks during the commissioning of the water project, the National President of the Union, Alhaji Otta Aliyu-Uthman urged Ilorin indigenes at home and in diaspora to contribute their quotas to the development of the state and country.
Aliyu-Uthman, who was represented by Head of the Department of Geology, Kwara State University, Malete, Dr Jimoh Ajadi noted that no government could single handedly solve all problems confronting the masses.
The national president urged the indigenes of the emirate to always complement efforts of the three tiers of government in provision of social amenities.
Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, the Chairman IEDPU, U.S branch in his remarks, said construction of the boreholes was part of the union’s contributions to humanitarian interventions to provide quality access to healthy consumption of clean water.
According to him, the union in USA is making efforts to find lasting solution to water problem across all the five local government areas that made up the llorin Emirate.
A member of the Project Committee, Alhaji Ajao Lookman, urged the benefiting communities to ensure proper maintenance of the projects.
The District Head of Malete, Mallam Ibrahim Belko and the Alangua Otte-Oja in Asa, Alhaji Yusuf Abdulsalam while responding on behalf of the two benefiting communities expressed gratitude to lEDPU for the gesture.
The heads of the two communities promised to ensure regular maintenance of the water projects. (NAN)
