JERSEY ISLAND – In a fierce and very competitive game, Nigeria’s Cricket Team, YELLOW GREENS recorded their first victory against Tanzania by six (6) wickets in the ongoing ICC Division 4 Tournament in Jersey Island, United Kingdom.
Heavy downpour delayed the match for considerable time in the morning which resulted in the organizers taking a decision to play 28 overs but all ODI Playing conditions still applied.
Tanzania won the toss and elected to bat first giving the Yellow Greens an opportunity to understand the playing surface.
But, Team Nigeria gradually but efficiently tore the Tanzania batting order into shreds as Chimezie Onwuzilize and Okpe Issac started the onslaught.
Olympio Seye and Abiodun Abioye continued with impressive spells as Tanzania could only manage a total score of 115 for the loss of 8 wickets in 28 overs.
In the Second Innings, Onikoyi Ademola and Olayinka Segun started from the front giving the YELLOW GREENS a comfortable start.
However, fall of 2 wickets provided a temporal scare but the Grit and Class of Onikoyi and Captain Kunle Adegbola steered the ship back on course and the Yellow Greens were able to provide a commanding display to record their first win in the tournament.
Man of the Match was Onikoyi Ademola with an impressive 68 runs not out. Other top performers for the YELLOW GREENS were Captain Kunle Adegola with 17 runs and Olayinka Tope 9 runs.
Adedeji Sesan was outstanding in the bowling effort for Nigeria with 3 wickets for 13 runs in 5 overs.
