President Bola Tinubu held his maiden presidential media chat Monday night at his Bourdillon residence, Ikoyi, Lagos, declaring he has no regrets removing petrol subsidy.
Prompt News reports that President Tinubu had in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, announced removal of petrol subsidy.
Fielding questions from the panel of senior journalists, Tinubu insisted Nigeria cannot continue to be Father Christmas to the neighbouring countries.
His words, “I don’t have any regrets whatsoever in removing petrol subsidy. We are spending our future, we were just deceiving ourselves, that reform was necessary.
“The market is being saturated. No monopoly, no oligopoly, a free market economy flowing.”
Asked if he would consider price control in the face of daily escalation of prices of essential commodities, the President reacted thus:
“I don’t believe in price control, we will work hard to supply the market,” he said.
