By Olusegun Lawrence In his capacity as the chairman of the National Assembly, Senate President David Mark has shut down the Complex.
Mark made the announcement on Thursday at plenary. The discussion on the extension of emergency rule in the frontline States of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe was thus aborted.
Senate had on Tuesday commenced discussion on President Goodluck Jonathan’s request and continued on Wednesday without reaching any agreement.
The Service Chiefs were expected to appear at plenary today to defend the request for extension.
The decision to shut down the National Assembly may not be unconnected with the taking over of the complex by security operatives earlier in the day.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, had been prevented by security operatives from entering the Chamber to preside over a special session of the House to consider the President’s request for a extension.
