Calabar’s premiere urban radio station, Hit 95.9 FM, the organiser of the Calabar Entertainment Conference (CEC), has disclosed that the conference was put in place to provide mentorship and guidance for budding entertainment professionals.
The CEO of Hit 95.9 FM, Patrick Ugbe, disclosed this at the 7th edition of Calabar Entertainment Conference held on Friday, October 6, 2023,
Since the first edition in 2017, there have been 114 speakers, 18 sponsors across various industries, and over 15,000 guests. The conference has hosted some of the country’s biggest stars and Cross River’s biggest exports such as 2Baba, Dj Jimmy Jatt, Ali Baba, Efa Iwara, Joey Akan, Ubi Franklin, Victor AD among others.
“We have undertaken this event several years now, with the understanding and strong belief that the creative industry is the fastest to get our young people out of poverty into gainful engagement. Therefore, we bring industry experts and professionals annually who come to provide mentorship and guidance with the hope that a good number would learn and grow,” he said.
This year’s conference not only attracted some of Nigeria’s top entertainment personalities, such as Efa Iwara and Denrele Edun, but also featured panel discussions exploring legal aspects, rights and responsibilities in the entertainment business, advertising and events, and management of fame and fortune, while spotlighting fast-rising music acts like Majeeed. CEC, Nigeria’s foremost entertainment gathering in the South-South region of Nigeria, explored the theme ‘Discover, Define, Rebrand’ aimed at restructuring the entertainment industry in Cross River State, thus creating an even distribution of wealth across the components of the entertainment industry.
Through this platform, the South-South conference has been able to gather entertainment professionals and budding creatives in a space that fosters mentorship and guidance.
The conference has been setting the stage to tackle and proffer viable solutions to issues faced by artistes and entertainment industry professionals working both in and outside the region.
