Hertha Berlin maintained their Bundesliga status with a victory at SV Hamburg in the relegation play-off on Monday but we’re already making leadership changes for the future.
Multiple media reports on Tuesday said 71-year-old club president Werner Gegenbauer had stepped down, though this had not been confirmed by the club.
In contrast, the departure of finance chief Ingo Schiller had been confirmed with the club saying his contract would be cancelled by mutual consent on Oct. 31.
Investor Lars Windhorst recently criticised Gegenbauer as Hertha descended into a series of arguments off the pitch as they also struggled for on-field form.
The appointment of veteran Felix Magath as an emergency coach in mid-March was enough to save the team, however, with Monday’s 2-0 win in Hamburg overturning a 1-0 first leg loss from Berlin.
Magath immediately said he would not continue in the role, however, and sports Chief Fredi Bobic faced a massive summer to prepare the team for next season. (dpa/NAN)
