The Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole has said that the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Prof Usman Yusuf must proceed on suspension.
Prompt News Online recalls that the NHIS Boss was directed to proceed on suspension last week to pave way for the Panel of Inquiry raised by the Ministry to probe the activities of the agency.
However, the embattled NHIS ES has said that he would not respect the ministerial directive.
The House of Representatives has also asked the Minister to reverse the directive and allow the NHIS Boss to resume while investigation continues.
But, a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Health, Mrs Boade Akinola, states:
“The Federal Ministry of Health hereby dissociates itself from the letter written by the suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof. Usman Yusuf.
“The Ministry hereby states that Prof. Yusuf, being a public officer, is bound by the regulations governing the Public Service. The NHIS is an agency supervised by the Federal Ministry of Health.
“The Administrative panel of Inquiry raised by the Ministry to investigate activities of the agency has commenced its assignment with specific terms of reference.”
