A former member of the House of Representatives, Sani Kutigi on Wednesday lifted the players and coaches of Niger United Handball Club with a cash donation of N100,000 at the ongoing 2020 Prudent Energy Handball League in Abuja.
Speaking to the team at half-time in their match against Delta Force, which they won by 34-25 on Wednesday, Kutigi said they should not be discouraged by their current form as they will rise again.
‘’When I heard over the news that Niger United Handball Club lost seven consecutive matches, I was sad because of the pedigree of the handball team.
“I came here to boost the morale of the team and I am excited they won their second game in the league.
“The only way I feel I can motivate the players is by making my donation to the best handball club in Sub Saharan Africa’’, he said.
He commended the Sam Ocheho-led board of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) for reshaping and reviving the league, saying Sam Ocheho is doing well and I urge the handball family to support him in his quest to take handball to the promised land”.
The former chairman of the award winning Niger hockey team, the Niger Flickers, said: “This is the first time, after seven years, that I will be watching quality handball’’, while commending the level of organization, officiating and the skills exhibited by the players.
Twelve teams are participating in the male category of the league, while 10 teams are featuring in the female category.
