The police on Thursday arraigned a hair dresser, Lydia Mallan, in a Grade I Area court at Mpape in Abuja for allegedly accusing her neighbour of stealing a cell phone.
Lydia, 35, who is of Berger quarry, Mpape, Abuja is charged with defamation of character and criminal intimidation.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr M.M. Austin told the court that the case was reported at Mpape Police station by one Mr Kingdom Johnson of the same address.
Austin alleged that the defendant on July 17, criminally accused the complainant of stealing her infinix cell phone and threatening to deal with him.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 392 and 397 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Salihu Ibrahim, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N250, 000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Aug. 5 for hearing.
