A final-year Computer Science student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osura, identified as Prince, was shot dead by gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday at his residence on Abuja Street, Ikot Osurua, in the Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.
The victim, who was awaiting mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was reportedly attacked in his room in the presence of his girlfriend.
According to a source within the polytechnic community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the gunmen gained access to the compound around 1 a.m. and went directly to the victim’s room, shooting him in the stomach.
“The gunmen didn’t steal anything or attack anyone else. They just targeted him, shot him, and fled the scene,” the source revealed.
The victim’s girlfriend raised the alarm, drawing the attention of neighbors who rushed to the scene. Prince was quickly taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Recounting his last encounter with the victim, the source added, “I saw him just yesterday afternoon with his girlfriend. They were both wearing facemasks, and we joked about it.
He was a popular figure in the community and an active member of his church choir. His death is a huge shock to everyone.”
