Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have killed nine persons, leaving several others injured at Ajikamaka, Tiv settlement in Doma local government area of Nasarawa state.
The killers were said to have invaded the community at about 2:00am Saturday, shooting sporadically and chanting war songs while fully armed with sophisticated weapons.
The whole village is currently in disarray as most of the inhabitants have fled for their lives in fear and the injured evacuated to seek medical attention in nearby towns.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the Nasarawa Command, ASP Ramhan Nansel said the Command was yet to receive official report on the incident.
The PPRO however said that as soon as the attack is confirmed, the command would as usual step up investigation to unravel the cause of the incident.
PROMPT NEWS reports that the deceased who were mostly women and children were identified as Tsekaa Chiatyo, Kwaghdoo Tsekaa, Sewuese Tsekaa, Bobo Chiatyo, Aondosee Fidelis, Aboy, Igba Aduku, Iwuesi and Aseer.
Confirming the attack to Journalists in Lafia, the President, Tiv Development Association (TIDA) in Nasarawa state, Comrade Peter Ahemba said it was an unprovoked attack.
Ahemba condemned the killings and described the dastardly act as unfortunate, as he appealed to the state government to deploy security in the area to calm the situation.
He called on the Tiv people to remain calm and avoid taking laws into their hands despite the attack.
