Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi has donated N5m to Government Secondary School (GGS) Zuru Old Boys Association to complement their efforts in school renovation.
This is contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Idris and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.
Idris reported the governor as saying this at the commissioning of a reconstructed administrative block, classrooms and an access road to the school in Zuru.
He said the gesture was to complement the efforts of the old boys in renovating and developing the school structure as a payback to their alma-mater.
The governor, who was represented by the Head of Service (HoS), Alhaji Sufiyanu Garba-Bena, said the school, established about 50 years ago, had produced prominent personalities across the country, contributing to national growth and development.
He explained that education sector development, through the provision of conducive learning atmosphere for students, remained part of the administration’s priority for a sound society that would meaningfully contribute to national progress.
“Remember, I am a trained teacher and I promised to upgrade at least a secondary school to Mega School in each of the three Senatorial Districts; this, I will do by the grace of Almighty Allah.
“This gesture of the old boys to renovate portions of the school is in line with my administration’s aspirations, therefore I must salute their efforts for a job well done,” he said.
He urged the college management to be thankful to the old boys for supporting the school in different ways, including infrastructure renovation, donation, supply of equipment or sponsorship of projects that would impact on both teachers and students.
The governor recalled that he had recently approved for the elongation of teachers’ years of service from 35 to 40 as well as 60 to 65 years of age.
According to him, the policy will address the manpower shortage in the education sector. (NAN). READ ALSO:
