Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Friday solicited synergy with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to protect the state from infiltration by criminals.
Buni made the call in Damaturu when Mr Tijani Lawal, the Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Bauchi Zonal Headquarters, paid him a courtesy visit.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idi Gubana, noted that the state which shared international border with Niger Republic needed effective boarder monitoring for its internal security.
He noted that significant progress was recently recorded in the fight against insurgency, kidnapping and other cross border crimes.
The governor, however, said collaboration among the state, NIS and other stakeholders was necessary to maintain the tempo.
Buni said he was in close contact with traditional rulers whom he referred to as critical stakeholders in maintenance of peace and safeguarding the territorial integrity.
He gave the assurance that the state would continue to support the NIS to enable it to discharge its duties effectively.
In his remarks, Lawal said he was in the state to attend a routine zonal meeting of the service.
While commending the state for its hospitality, he solicited the governor’s support and co-operation to enable the service to deliver on its mandate.
Lawal assured the governor that the staff of the service would perform their duties with professionalism and high sense of responsibility.
