Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has expressed his condolences to the government and people of Lagos State on the death of former civilian Governor of the State, Michael Otedola.
Amosun has also commiserated with the Nigerian Judiciary, government and people of Imo State on the death of one of the nation’s legal icons, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Wakama, Governor Amosun recalled the victory of the former governor when he was elected on the platform of the National Republican Convention (NRC), between 1992 and 1993 and described him as “a fulfilled politician and an accomplished technocrat.
“Baba contributed his bit to the development of Lagos State as governor between 1992 and 1993 before that democratic dispensation was truncated by the then military junta,” he said.
The governor also described the death of Oputa, the former Justice of the Supreme Court, as “the dimming of another shining star in Nigeria’s legal firmament.
“Justice Oputa will forever be remembered for his landmark judgments and particularly, his role during the Human Rights Violation Investigations Commission, a reconciliatory panel set up by the then Olusegun Obasanjo administration and headed by him to investigate human rights abuses in Nigeria from 1979 to 1999,” Amosun said.
He prayed to God to grant the families and associates of the two great men the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
