General Coordinator Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament, Tunde Shamsudeen, has congratulated the management, coaching crew and players of Niger Tornadoes for advancing to the Aiteo Cup final.
The Ikoh Allah team qualified for the grand finale of the aged long championship 17 years after they won against Rangers International of Enugu, by beating defending champions FC Ifeanyi Ubah on 4-3 aggregate.
Result of the first semi-final leg at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja last weekend was 4-2.
Knowing they can’t throw away their two-goal lead, they did the unthinkable conceeding a goal in Nnewi via a Godwin Obaje’s 85th minute penalty.
“We are delighted to be part of Niger Tornadoes success story, as it was down to hardwork and dedication by the technical crew led by Bala Abubakar and his players.
“The club’s participation in the Gold Cup tourney have proved critics wrong. It showed the 10 days days they spent playing the tourney before the commencement of last season was productive as the team got going in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and Aiteo Cup.
“We want to wish the team the best in the finale in Lagos.”
