Chairman National Nationwide League, Mohammed Alkali Tuesday fired a warning shot to ex-football players turned coach to update themselves or get kicked out from further handling any club in the country.
Alkali in a chat at the Nigeria Football Federation Secretariat, said the era where ex-football players are assigned coaching roles in the league games would no longer be tolerated.
“From next league season, only certificated coaches would be allowed to handle club sides.
“The ex-football players who are eager to handle any club side should go and upgrade himself from recognised institutes. We’ll only allow certificated coaches to handle club sides.
“This decision will give room for improvement in our league and the standard would be high”, thus declared Alhaji Mohammed Alkali.
He however stated that the measure would be effective from next season.
To achieve the certification of coaches, Alkali said the National Nationwide League is partnering Coerver Coaching Academy for the coaching course scheduled for September in Abuja.
He said there would be no restriction in coaching programme, adding “The coaching programme is opened to all coaches that want to upgrade themselves”.
