Jochen Drees, who runs the German Football Federation’s video assistant referee programme, is open to letting ex-players help officials make the right calls.
Germany icon Lothar Matthäus floated the idea after more high-profile controversies in the Bundesliga last weekend.
He had said former players could spot fouls quicker than even experienced officials.
Bayern Munich clinched a 10th straight Bundesliga title after a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) did not intervene after an apparent foul in the penalty box.
The foul was by Benjamin Pavard against Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, who felt hard done by for the second Klassiker in a row.
“Taking advantage of their expertise and getting advice from such people is a much more sensible way to go,” Drees said.
“That will be an approach we will want to pursue.”
The addition of ex-players to video review teams already for next season is not out of the question, he added. (dpa/NAN)
