Germany’s Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, has sent a letter to UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin asking for the exclusion of Belarus from the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
The request was due to Belarus’ support to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“Not only Russia, which is waging a war of aggression in violation of international law, but also Belarus, as a major supporter of the Russian leadership, should be excluded from all international football matches and tournaments,” Faeser wrote in the letter.
Her ministry is also responsible for sports and Germany will host the Euro 2024 finals.
Unlike other federations, the European football governing body UEFA has only excluded Russia from competitions in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine. (dpa/NAN)
