The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and his special assistant on special needs and equal opportunities, Abdulsalam Idowu Kamaldeen, are among the nominees to be honoured with Naija Autistic and Disability Awards, NADA, as part of activities marking this year’s international day of people living with disabilities, IDPD on Thursday .
Other nominees for the awards include; David Anyaele of the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities , CCD and the Atunda-Olu School for the Physically and Mentally Challenged.
According to a press release by NADA founder, Tunde Oyedoyin, nominees listed for this maiden edition of the awards also include; Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Sighted Children and the Federal Nigerian Society for The Blind.
According to London-based Oyedoyin, the nominees have, “in various ways, contributed towards raising awareness on the plight of people living with disabilities in Nigeria.”
The awards ceremony will take place early next year .
IDPD is celebrated on December 3 each year and this year’s theme is “Not all disabilities are visible.”
